Summit Pathology

We are seeking an enthusiastic team player to join our fast-paced, growing pathology company as a Lab Assistant/Hospital Tech. The hours are variable, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in rotation through hospitals, and 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at our main lab. The position involves rotation at Mckee Medical Center in Loveland, North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, and Banner Fort Collins. This posting remains open until the position is filled.

As a Lab Assistant/Hospital Tech, you will work closely with Pathologists and hospital staff to assist with processing and preparing surgical and cytology specimens, ensuring high-quality patient care.

About Us:

Summit Pathology is an independent laboratory owned by board-certified pathologists, serving hospital systems and physician offices across Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska for over 35 years. We offer expertise in various subspecialties including breast pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology, and clinical chemistry.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess specimen quality, make corrections, and prepare specimens for processing or grossing.
  • Accurately accession specimens into our LIS system and perform data entry.
  • Ensure precise identification and accessioning of specimens.
  • Perform quality control on requisitions and maintain accurate filing of slides and blocks.
  • Rotate through hospital facilities and become familiar with all areas.
  • Assist with routine needle procedures, including fine needle aspirations, CT biopsies, and endoscopy procedures, and prepare slides for staining.
  • Assist with frozen section specimens from operating rooms.
  • Manage inventory and organization of offsite gross rooms.
  • Interact with hospital staff and handle phone communications professionally.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet lab responsibilities and goals.
  • Participate in department activities to improve patient care and lab systems, and mentor new staff as needed.
  • Adhere to all procedures, policies, and safety standards, reporting unsafe conditions and attending safety training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in a laboratory science from an accredited institution; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect patient privacy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in using multiple computer systems with accuracy.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Previous experience in data entry or healthcare/laboratory settings.
