Position Objective
Supports technical staff in the delivery of medical laboratory information related to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

- Fosters cooperation to maintain inter- and intradepartmental workflow (hand-offs).
- Manages laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt. Uses equipment and supplies efficiently to achieve results.
- Obtains biological specimens from patients of all ages using methods such as venipuncture, capillary, and heel-stick puncture to ensure quality specimens. Processes gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, including instrument processing, staining, reagent changing, and cover-slipping, adhering to productivity guidelines with minimal errors.
- Accurately registers patients in the Hospital Information System, including details like date of service, ordering caregiver, and special flags. Orders or accesses tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), interprets orders correctly, and responds to lab result requests.
- Prepares aliquots and processes samples for referral to outside labs; distributes specimens according to standard procedures.
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, performing preventative maintenance as needed.
- Participates actively in the laboratory quality plan/program, including investigative reports and delay notifications.
- Mentors and trains new staff and students, serving as a technical resource.
Educational/Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least six months of experience in an acute care facility in a similar role.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is possible. Physical demands include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. Reasonable accommodations are available under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
