Job description

Overview

Element has a current opening for a Laboratory Assistant to join our growing team in Ann Arbor, MI. The Lab Assistant is responsible for timely receipt and processing of samples and other receivables, and management of controlled drug and chemical inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, check-in and maintain database of chemical inventory
  • Responsible for verification of information on Chain of Custody forms, bottle labeling, sample/container package shipping
  • Receive and process all incoming samples
  • Log in all samples, assign unique IDs per standard procedures and maintain up to date logs and systems reflecting storage locations, disposition status, etc.
  • Process end of life samples and prepare for safe disposal as appropriate
  • Maintain retained samples and secure sample storage areas including logs and systems to reflect storage locations, status, etc.
  • Receive and process all incoming shipments including consumables, office supplies, etc.
  • Package, coordinate, and process all outgoing shipments including dropping off packages at shipping facility as needed
  • Manage receipt and shipping of large or oversize items
  • Responsible for laboratory safety compliance
  • Responsible for laboratory cleaning and organization
  • Assist with management of controlled drug inventory
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills / Qualifications
  • A.S or B.S in related scientific field, or equivalent level of experience
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and an attitude of learning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Good fundamentals and ability to learn quickly

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds on occasion
  • Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time
  • Walking throughout the day
  • Ability to read and write
