Job Summary
Laboratory Animal Caretakers handle, treat, and observe animals used in research. They are responsible for handling laboratory animals, observing them for signs of disease, sanitizing, organizing, and maintaining animal cages and equipment by operating cage washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves. They sanitize corridors and support areas using appropriate techniques to promote animal health and welfare and to comply with policies and regulations. Routine maintenance is performed to ensure proper operation of equipment and machinery in cage wash areas. Incumbents communicate with supervisors and clinical staff to report issues and receive instructions regarding animal handling and treatment related to specific experiments. They monitor environmental parameters and equipment according to standardized criteria, maintain records by collecting and recording data to facilitate facility management, and administer treatments, euthanize animals, and assist during nonroutine husbandry practices under supervision.

Work Schedule
Based on 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.
