Job summary

Fayette County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a full-time Laboratory Analyst to perform analyses of water samples throughout the distribution system, including chemical, bacteriological, algal and physical testing.

Responsibilities include collecting and submitting samples to state and private labs for EPA/EPD testing under NPDES permits, preparing reports, maintaining records, calibrating equipment, and monitoring streams for contamination.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship or internship or 1–2 years in a similar lab role.
• Valid Georgia driver's license or ability to obtain one.
• State certification as a water laboratory analyst is required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze water samples from the distribution system using standard chemical, bacteriological, algal, and physical methods.
• Submit samples to state and private labs for EPA/EPD testing under NPDES permits.
• Prepare sample analysis reports and log results of all tests.
• Analyze water samples and report results.
• Document and maintain accurate records for all laboratory functions.
• Calibrate and perform QC on lab equipment including spectrophotometer and turbidimeter.
• Monitor area streams for signs of contamination and assess chlorine demand on wells.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a full-time position with benefits. This position is responsible for performing laboratory analyses of water samples.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

1. Collects and analyzes water samples taken throughout the distribution system by performing standard chemical, bacteriological, algal, and physical examinations.
2. Collects and submits water samples to state and private laboratories for testing various parameters as required by EPA and EPD in compliance with NPDES permits.
3. Prepares sample analysis reports; logs results of all samples tested.
4. Analyzes water samples and reports results.
5. Documents and maintains accurate records for all laboratory functions.
6. Maintains and performs periodic quality control procedures and calibration on laboratory equipment, spectrophotometer, and turbidimeter to ensure accuracy and precision.
7. Performs ongoing monitoring of area streams for signs of contamination.
8. Determines chlorine demand on wells.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a water laboratory analyst.

Starting Salary - $47,974.04
