Job summary

Fayette County Administration is seeking a full-time Water Laboratory Analyst to perform laboratory analyses of water samples collected throughout the distribution system. The role includes preparing reports, maintaining records, and ensuring quality control with instrumentation such as spectrophotometers and turbidimeters.

Major duties involve collecting samples, submitting tests to labs, and monitoring streams for contamination while upholding EPA/EPD requirements and NPDES permits.

Qualifications

• Completion of specialized training in the occupational field.
• Apprenticeship/internship or 1-2 years in a similar position.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license for vehicle/equipment operation.
• State certification as a water laboratory analyst.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze water samples from the distribution system using standard chemical, bacteriological, algal, and physical tests.
• Submit samples to state/private labs for EPA/EPD testing per NPDES permits.
• Prepare sample analysis reports and log results.
• Document and maintain records for all laboratory functions.
• Perform QC and calibration on lab equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Monitor area streams for contamination signs.
• Determine chlorine demand on wells.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a full-time position with benefits. This position is responsible for performing laboratory analyses of water samples.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

1. Collects and analyzes water samples taken throughout the distribution system by performing standard chemical, bacteriological, algal, and physical examinations.
2. Collects and submits water samples to state and private laboratories for testing various parameters as required by EPA and EPD in compliance with NPDES permits.
3. Prepares sample analysis reports; logs results of all samples tested.
4. Analyzes water samples and reports results.
5. Documents and maintains accurate records for all laboratory functions.
6. Maintains and performs periodic quality control procedures and calibration on laboratory equipment, spectrophotometer, and turbidimeter to ensure accuracy and precision.
7. Performs ongoing monitoring of area streams for signs of contamination.
8. Determines chlorine demand on wells.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a water laboratory analyst.
