Job summary

EMSL Analytical, Inc. in Woburn, MA is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) to perform bulk/material analysis for asbestos content using PLM, PCM, and TEM. No prior lab experience is required; on-the-job training will be provided.

The role involves preparing samples, reporting results, maintaining equipment, and contributing to QA/QC. Candidates should be able to distinguish colors and work both independently and in a team, with a Monday–Friday day shift.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plus
• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
• Light microscopy or petrographic microscope training preferred
• Some Laboratory experience in academic or commercial setting
• 0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis
• Ability to distinguish colors for analysis
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good time management and adaptability

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM, PCM, and/or TEM
• Determine visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
• Perform QA/QC per manual
• Administrative duties including sample login, data entry, and report distribution
• Other duties as needed by the manager

Salary Range: $20.00 - $20.00 Hourly

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Woburn, MA. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
• Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
• Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
• Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager

• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude
• Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance

Available Shift:

Position is full time, Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
