Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical lab functions and to maintain department inventory. Under supervision, you will assist with specimen transport, barcoding, and logging, helping ensure smooth workflow.

This role requires adherence to policies, safety practices, and strong teamwork. Hours may vary, and the position is temporary for roughly three months.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanente policies and applicable laws.
• Pre-analytical testing: bar coding, centrifuging, separating, mixing, logging and transporting specimens.
• Retrieves specimens for repeat testing and reports findings.
• Maintains orders and inventories for supplies in the assigned area.
• Transports laboratory reports to appropriate areas and prepares specimens for outside laboratories.
• Documents problems with specimens and maintains courteous relations with patients and staff.
• Follows directives from supervisors and seniors.
• May perform other duties as required.

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs pre-analytical and post-analytical functions of laboratory testing. Maintains department inventory. Transports specimens and supplies.

Essential Responsibilities:

Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Performs pre-analytical phase of testing by bar coding, centrifuging, separating, mixing, logging and transporting specimens. Retrieves specimens for repeat testing, looks for stored or lost specimens and reports. Maintains orders and inventories all supplies for their specific area or job assignment. Receives and transports laboratory reports to the appropriate areas. Properly processes bar codes and accessions specimens. Prepares specimen for transportation to outside laboratories. Documents problem specimens. Maintains and monitors database for specimens sent to outside reference laboratories. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations when interacting with the public, patients and other personnel. Follows directives from all supervisors, leads, and seniors. May perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

35 wpm or as required by facility Successful completion of orientation and on-the-job training Demonstrated ability to perform the duties/responsibilities of the job at a fully satisfactory level of performance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Managing/handling of med waste. Operate autoclave/cardboard bailer. Knowledge of chemicals used in cleaning lab surfaces. Able to lift 25-30 lbs.
