Job summary

Pasco County's Public Works department seeks a Labor Supervisor III to coordinate and supervise crews performing maintenance and construction of roads, bridges, drainage, and related projects. You will plan, organize, and direct work, train staff, inspect sites, and ensure safety and quality standards.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, four years in highway construction/maintenance with two years in supervision, and a valid Florida CDL Class B license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Four years of experience in construction/maintenance of highways, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
• Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's Class "B" License.
• Ability to lift up to 90 pounds and operate/ supervise equipment safely.

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A LABOR SUPERVISOR III - PUBLIC WORKS

Advanced supervisory work in coordinating and supervising a crew or a number of crews in performing maintenance/construction of County roads, bridges, rights-of-way, drainage systems and special projects. Work is performed under the direction of the Road & Bridge Maintenance Supervisor.

Plans, organizes, and directs the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees engaged in paving/patching asphalt roads, installing and repairing drainage pipes, building/repairing head walls and catch basins, repairing dirt roads, shoulders, bridges and/or mowing rights-of-way. Trains workers in proper work methods and safety procedures to be followed. Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and the personnel, materials and equipment to be used. Coordinates installation, repair and maintenance assignments with County departments and other agencies. Controls the storage and issuance of major items. Trains, counsels and evaluates the performance of subordinate employees. Maintains proper documentation of all work completed through the use of a computerized maintenance management system, photographs and field books. Responds courteously and effectively to complaints from the general public. Ability to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required.

• Knowledge of the types of equipment, materials and methods used in various applications in roads, bridge and drainage maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of the various types of commercial mowing equipment used in different situations.
• Knowledge of practices and techniques required for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
• Ability to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to read blueprints, construction plans and interpret data.
• Ability to supervise.

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to climb, bend, stoop and squat frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Four (4) years of experience in construction and/or maintenance and repair of highways, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity, road operations maintenance and working with the general public.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's Class "B" License.
