Job summary

Pasco County is seeking an entry-level Public Works Field Technician I to assist with inspections, service requests, and documentation for stormwater, roadway, and maintenance operations. You will support Field Technicians II, learn field procedures, and help respond to residents' concerns.

You will gain hands-on training in stormwater systems, safety, and customer service while working outdoors. A Florida driver's license is required for this role.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
• Basic computer skills and ability to enter data into WAMS.
• Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and the public.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assists with field inspections of stormwater systems, drainage structures, roadways, and rights-of-way.

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PUBLIC WORKS FIELD TECHNICIAN I

This is an entry-level technical and field support position responsible for assisting with basic inspections, service request investigations, and work order documentation related to stormwater, roadway, and maintenance operations. This role supports Field Technicians II, Lead Field Technicians, and Supervisors in providing timely and accurate responses to service requests and public concerns.

Field Investigations & Service Requests

• Assists with field inspections of stormwater systems, drainage structures, roadways, and rights-of-way.
• Responds to assigned service requests and work orders under guidance of senior staff.
• Collects basic field data including photos, measurements, and site observations.
• Assists with verifying locations, assets, and conditions related to Public Works requests.

Work Order & System Support

• Enters and updates basic work order information in WAMS.
• Documents field observations, notes, and customer contact information.
• Assists with verifying service request accuracy and completeness.

Customer Interaction

• Provides basic information to residents regarding service requests, inspection processes, and next steps.
• Refers complex issues to senior field staff or supervisors.

Training & Development

• Participates in on-the-job training related to stormwater systems, roadway maintenance, safety, and customer service.
• Learns Public Works SOPs, communication standards, and field documentation procedures.

Safety & Operations

• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Uses appropriate PPE and supports safe work practices.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Basic knowledge of Public Works operations preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and learn field inspection procedures.
• Basic computer skills and ability to enter data into WAMS.
• Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and the public.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

PHYSICAL SKILLS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. Upon Emergency Operations Center activation, employees must be prepared to work additional hours and job duties.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
