Job Summary

Under general supervision the Labor Relations Technician will provide technical Human Resource (HR) services and assistance to the employees of the Minneapolis Veteran’s Home in the areas of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Workers Compensation, and leave administration and to the HR Director and HR Consultant 1 positions.

The incumbent is responsible for completing assignments, which may include a variety of job tasks involving processing leave requests, Workers Compensation record maintenance, assisting with finding resources for Labor Relations staff, records maintenance, and report filings, and ensuring that all personnel statutes, collective bargaining agreements/plans, personnel rules and the administrative procedures are met.

In addition, this position will complete various special projects as assigned. This position will have access to bargaining materials as defined in M.S. 13.37, Subd.1C, and will assist management in research and development of bargaining proposals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working in an office setting performing technical or administrative support functions.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply collective bargaining agreement or company policy/handbook provisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, sufficient to respond to employee inquiries, explain policy/procedures, and develop informational materials.
  • Human relations and customer service skills sufficient to interact effectively with a variety of customers.
  • Computer software skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook sufficient to prepare and/or edit reports, create informational materials, create employee and applicant letters and memoranda, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data practices.
  • Experience with SEMA4 or similar PeopleSoft HRIS.
  • Experience with FMLA practices.
  • Experience with iRISK workers' compensation system.

This position requires successful completion of the following:
