Job summary

MetroPlusHealth in New York seeks a Labor Relations Specialist to manage worker relations in a unionized environment, advise leaders, and ensure compliance with labor laws. This role emphasizes building effective partnerships, policy guidance, and strategic labor relations initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline is required.
  • At least 2 years of labor/employee relations experience in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to work under supervision, with strong judgment and time management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining, and OSHA regulations.

Job description

  • Engage with Unions and Union Representatives, Central Office of Labor Relations, Office of Collective Bargaining, and other City, State, or Federal agencies about labor relations matters as needed
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and communication of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices aligned with the health plan’s goals and objectives
  • Monitor adherence to MetroPlusHealth and NYC H+H policies and procedures and objective performance standards
  • Monitor and track deadlines related to labor relations matters and activities
  • Support leaders with preparing, planning, and scheduling pre-disciplinary meetings, including counselling sessions and warnings
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials supporting labor relations initiatives
  • Organize and compile data for grievances, disciplinary matters, and other labor relations matters
  • Provide administrative support during hearings and labor-management meetings, including note-taking, document preparation, and logistical arrangements
  • Maintain current knowledge of company policies, collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Support training and guidance for supervisors and managers on labor and employee relations matters
  • Assist with reviewing contracts, agreements, and Labor Relations Orders concerning wages, hours, working conditions, labor relations, employee relations, and personnel management
  • Support labor relations investigations, grievances, disciplinary hearings, employee complaints, appeals to the City Office of Labor Relations, and arbitration hearings
  • Support resolution of employee relations matters, including complaints, recommendations, performance management, dispute resolution, and compensation at the local level within MetroPlusHealth
  • Participate in labor-management meetings to discuss and resolve issues
  • Support management of MetroPlusHealth’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program
  • Gather and report OSHA data to the State and other regulatory agencies
  • Support special projects and initiatives assigned by labor relations and people leadership

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required with a major in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Management, Business, Law, or a related discipline
  • 2 years of experience in Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Human Resources, and/or Personnel Administration in a unionized workplace, including administration of policies and labor relations matters
  • Ability to work under supervision; results-driven; team-oriented; understands and follows directions easily and well; structures and sequences tasks to meet objectives, priorities, and timetables set by supervisor
