Job summary

Baltimore City Law Department is seeking a highly qualified attorney to join its Labor and Employment Practice Group. Qualified candidates will have litigation experience and enjoy advocating in court and administrative proceedings.

Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills are essential, with knowledge of state and federal employment and traditional labor law a plus. Responsibilities include defense of the City’s interests in employment matters, discovery, depositions, and providing

Qualifications

• A law degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Maryland Bar is required.
• At least 3 years of litigation experience, including trial experience.
• Must be sworn-in federal court or eligible for immediate swearing-in if selected.
• Knowledge of the Maryland Rules and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and maintain professionalism under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Lead defense of the City’s interests in a wide range of employment matters.
• Identify and gather relevant documents and electronic information across dispersed sources.
• Investigate facts and develop litigation strategy.
• Research and draft motions, pleadings, and position statements.
• Prepare fact and expert witnesses for proceedings.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Participate in EEOC, Maryland Commission on Civil Rights and City civil rights matters.
• Provide legal opinions and guidance on employment-related policies to the City and agencies.
