Job summary

The Law Department of Baltimore City seeks a highly qualified attorney to join its Labor and Employment Practice Group. Qualified candidates should have litigation experience and should enjoy appearing as an advocate in court and administrative proceedings.

Excellent advocacy, and research and writing skills are required. Substantive knowledge of state and federal employment law and traditional labor law is a plus.

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited law school and Maryland Bar admission.
• At least 3 years of litigation experience, including trial experience.
• Excellent advocacy, research and writing skills.
• Substantive knowledge of state and federal employment and traditional labor law.

Responsibilities

• Take a lead role defending the City’s interests in a wide range of employment matters.
• Identify and gather relevant documents and electronic information across city agencies.
• Investigate facts and develop litigation strategy.
• Research and draft motions, pleadings, and position statements.
• Identify and prepare fact and expert witnesses.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Participate in EEOC and civil rights hearings and proceedings.
• Regularly update supervising attorneys on case status.
• Examine witnesses at civil service hearings and trials.
