Baltimore City Department of Law is seeking a qualified Assistant Solicitor for the Labor and Employment Practice Group in Baltimore. The role focuses on defending the City’s employment matters in court and before administrative agencies, with emphasis on advocacy and research.

Qualified candidates will have a law degree, Maryland Bar, and at least 3 years of litigation experience. Strong written and oral communication are essential to success in this role.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; Maryland Bar admission required
• At least 3 years of litigation experience, including actual trial experience
• Strong knowledge of state and federal employment and labor law a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to advocate effectively

Responsibilities

• Defend the City's interests in employment matters in court and before administrative agencies
• Investigate facts, develop litigation strategy, draft motions and pleadings
• Take and defend depositions; coordinate with EEOC and civil rights agencies
• Provide legal opinions and guidance on employment policies to City agencies
