Job summary

Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) seeks a Legal Counsel - Labor and Employment to provide specialized legal guidance on labor issues affecting the department. The role interfaces with unions throughout the grievance process and conducts complex legal research on applicable laws and IDEC policies.

The position also handles FOIA requests with a focus on labor and personnel matters, ensuring compliance and sound recommendations.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an accredited school of law.
• Requires possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
• Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Legal Counsel - Labor and Employment for IDEC.
• Engages with union representatives during the grievance process.
• Performs extensive legal research on state and federal law and IDEC policies.
• Serves as secondary FOIA contact with focus on labor, personnel and discrimination requests.
• Performs other duties within the scope of Office of Legal Services.
