Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Labor & Employment Attorney on Long Island to join a leading law firm. This role involves full client contact and court appearances, handling wage/hour disputes, discrimination claims, and employee benefits.

You will perform in-depth legal research, draft and negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Required is a Juris Doctorate and a current license to practice law, with 5+ years in labor and employment, strong litigation and writing

One of the top law firms on Long Island is expanding and looking for a Labor & Employment Attorney to join their team! This position, which has full client contact and court appearances, requires attending court, government agency hearings, arbitrations, trials, appeals, conducting legal research and preparing legal documents.

Responsibilities

1. Provide legal advice and guidance on all kinds of labor and employment matters including wage and hour disputes, workplace safety, discrimination claims, and employee benefits.
2. Conduct thorough legal research to ensure the organization is in compliance with all current laws and regulations.
3. Represent the organization in litigation, including managing outside counsel.
4. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, policies, and other legal documents.
5. Develop and implement employment policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
6. Conduct training sessions for management and staff on labor laws and other relevant legal issues.
7. Collaborate with other departments to manage risk, ensure operational efficiency, and foster a culture of compliance.
8. Stay updated with changes in labor laws and regulations and advise the organization accordingly.

Qualifications

1. Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
2. A current license to practice law.
3. 5+ years of experience as a Labor & Employment Attorney.
4. Demonstrated experience in litigation, legal writing, and legal research.
5. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
6. Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to resolve complex legal issues.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions based on legal considerations.
9. High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
10. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
11. Proficiency in using legal research software and other related tools.
