Job summary

MelroseWakefield Healthcare, Inc. seeks a Surgical Technician to assist in the preparation and support of surgical procedures under the RN guidance. You will act as scrub tech, maintain sterile field, pass instruments, and support preventing infection during operative care.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a surgical technology program or military training, and BLS certification; OR experience is preferred and on-call coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completed Surgical Technology program or military training in surgical technology or graduated from accredited program.
• Surgical Technician certification within 12 months.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Set up for specified surgical procedures per protocol.
• Assemble case carts with instruments for next-day cases.
• Serve as scrub tech—maintain sterile field and pass instruments.
• Perform technical tasks beyond cutting and suturing.
• Apply electrocautery to clamps during surgery under supervision.
• Adapt to schedule changes professionally.
• Maintain skill level across specialties.
• Practice cost-conscious use of equipment.
• Function effectively in emergencies.
• Assist RN/Transporter with patient transfer and specimen prep.
• Assist anesthesiologist and others with equipment.
• Help with general cleaning of Operating Room.
• Provide on-call coverage as required.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
