Job summary

Mountain View Hospital is seeking a Postpartum Registered Nurse to join our Perinatal team. You will provide direct patient care in the recovery and postpartum setting for mothers and babies, perform newborn assessments and neonatal resuscitation as needed, and communicate changes in condition to the care team.

You must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Idaho RN license, maintain BLS, and complete required obstetric competencies within set timeframes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Idaho RN license.
• BLS Healthcare Provider within 2 weeks of hire.
• NRP, ACLS, & STABLE within 6 months of hire.
• BBNC within 12 months of hire.
• Complete Mother Baby and Infant feeding competency prior to coming off orientation, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency.
• Working knowledge of anatomy and its application to perinatal care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the Recovery and Postpartum unit for mothers and infants.
• Assess neonates at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation per current guidelines.
• Perform vitals, initial admissions, and head-to-toe assessments on infants and adults.
• Develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans; evaluate daily effectiveness.
• Educate families and involve them in the care plan.
• Communicate patient conditions and changes to the charge nurse and providers.
• Coordinate with other departments for interdisciplinary patient care.
• Supervise and assist in coordinating patient care as needed.

Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.2. Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother-baby unit.3. Able to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines. Will complete newborn resuscitation competency within 90 days of hire and recertify quarterly.4. Able to perform vitals and initial admission and head-to-toe assessments on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.5. Implements a teaching plan based on identified learning need and evaluates effectiveness of learning. (Family is included as appropriate).6. Able to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.7. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.8. Communicates appropriately any patient care issues and current assessment clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and providers.9. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.10.
