Job summary

Naval Medical Center San Diego is actively seeking a Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery to coordinate patient care across a broad team of healthcare professionals. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and cost-effective clinical practice on-site in San Diego.

The ideal candidate holds an ASN, has at least 1 year of recent labor and delivery experience, and maintains active RN licensure with BLS/NRP and fetal monitoring certifications. A government background check will be required.

Qualifications

• ASN degree from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum one year of post-grad RN labor and delivery experience within the past three years.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license from any state.
• Maintain current BLS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitoring Certifications.
• Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals.
• Facilitate achievement of optimal outcomes in clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
• Perform physical exam and health histories.
• Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
• Administer medications, wound care, and personalized interventions.
• Provide clinical direction for making patient care assignments within scope of practice.
• Recognize adverse signs and respond in emergencies.
• Communicate with diverse healthcare teams to inform plans/actions and educate patients/families.
• Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
• Conduct nursing services identified in the unit.
• Conduct research to improve practice and patient outcomes.
