Job summary

Duke University Health System is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Float Pool in Labor & Delivery/Mother Baby at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The role emphasizes compassionate, high-quality patient care and active engagement in clinical development.

Expect responsibilities across multiple departments with clinical expertise, preceptorship, and participation in performance improvement initiatives. A BSN or equivalent is required, with ongoing education supported by the hospital.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.
• Twelve months of Labor/Delivery/Mother & Baby clinical experience is required for Experienced RNs.
• RNs without a Bachelor’s degree must enroll in a BSN program within two years of start date and complete within seven years.

Responsibilities

• Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care per the nursing process and physician orders.
• Use clinical judgment to individualize the plan of care based on patient needs.
• Delegate tasks and supervise other licensed and unlicensed staff.
• Assist other nursing personnel in delivering care.
• Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain care environment and resources.
• Participate in professional development and maintain competencies.
• Act as preceptor and support development of staff and learners.
• Contribute to clinical and operational performance improvement initiatives.
• Adhere to all applicable regulations and accreditation requirements.
