Job summary

Mercy St. Louis Labor & Birth offers a full-time night RN residency for new graduates and experienced RNs. The program provides simulation-based training, dedicated unit preceptors, and mentorship to support growth in obstetrical care.

You’ll work with a team of specialists, manage labor and high-risk patients, and participate in evidence-based practice development while advancing your clinical skills and confidence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (expected).
• Current RN License (or Compact License).
• BLS Certification (AHA).
• NRP Required.
• ACLS Required.
• Intermediate Fetal Heart Rate Training Provided for Labor RNs.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to provide care for mothers, infants, and families through all childbirth stages.
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care.
• Monitor laboring and high-risk patients and respond to emergencies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and serve as a clinical resource.

What You’ll Do

As a Labor & Birth RN, you'll utilize the nursing process to provide exceptional care for mothers, infants, and families through every stage of the childbirth experience.

Clinical Excellence

• Develop and implement individualized plans of care
• Monitor and manage laboring and high-risk patients
• Recognize and respond to emergent situations
• Utilize evidence-based practice to guide patient care
• Advocate for mothers, babies, and families
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams

Critical Thinking & Leadership

• Manage complex patient assignments
• Independently evaluate changing patient conditions
• Lead and respond effectively during emergencies
• Serve as a clinical resource for peers
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives

Patient & Family Education

• Provide individualized education based on patient needs
• Support families throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum care
• Promote positive outcomes through effective teaching and communication

Qualifications
