Job summary

Global Market Foods LLC in Bolingbrook, IL is seeking a Labeling Compliance Specialist to review, update, and maintain product labels to ensure FDA and USDA compliance across a diverse portfolio. You will coordinate with QA, Marketing, and Procurement, and liaise with suppliers to gather label documentation.

The role focuses on allergen labeling, ingredient declarations, and regulatory changes, develops SOPs, and helps align product claims with marketing while reducing recall risk.

Qualifications

• BS in Food Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years’ experience with FDA (21 CFR) and USDA labeling requirements.
• FDA labeling certification preferred or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Review, verify, and update product labels for FDA 21 CFR and USDA compliance.
• Ensure allergen labeling and ingredient declarations meet requirements.
• Own regulatory label updates for ingredient changes and changes in regulation.
• Conduct label evaluation at scale and support backlog reduction.
• Communicate with domestic and international suppliers for label documentation.
• Collaborate with QA, Marketing, and Procurement to update labels.
• Identify regulatory risks and gaps; escalate issues to minimize recalls.
• Develop and maintain SOPs and best practices for label review.
• Align product claims with marketing language to ensure compliance.
• Work with suppliers to ensure vendors meet food safety requirements.

Job Description:

TheLabelingRegulatorySpecialistis responsible forreviewing, updating, andmaintainingproduct labels to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, U.S. state regulations, and requirements for imported food products across a diverse portfolio.This role supports label accuracy, regulatory updates, and cross-functional coordination to ensure products meet compliance standards while supporting business needs.

Essential Role Functions

• Review, verify, and update product labels to ensure compliance with FDA 21 CFR, USDA, U.S. state laws, and applicable requirements for imported foods across a large and diverse portfolio
• Ensure labels meet federal and state-specific requirements, including allergen labeling, ingredient declarations, andrequireddisclosures, while considering category-specific requirements and variations
• Own regulatory label updates related to ingredient changes, allergen requirements, and regulatory changes
• Execute label evaluation activities at scale, including review of flagged items, legacy products, and newlyacquireditems, while supporting backlog reduction
• Communicate with domestic and international suppliers to obtain, clarify, and correct label-related documentation, including managing follow-ups and resolving delays
• Partner cross-functionally with QA, Marketing, and Procurement to support label updates, align on requirements, and move projects forward efficiently
• Assess regulatory risk,identifycompliance gaps, and escal issues as needed to ensuretimelyresolution and minimize business and recall risk
• Develop andmaintainSOPs, policies, and best practices for label compliance and review processes
• Work closely with Marketing to review andalignproduct claims, branding language, and marketingdriven statements to ensure they are compliant and supportable
• Collaborate with Supplier Specialists to ensure vendors associated with reviewed labels meet food safety and compliance requirements, especially for new product launches and onboarding
• Supportadditionalregulatory or labelrelated projects as needed

Work Experience/Requirements for This Role

• BSin Food Science or related field
• 3-5years’ experiencewith FDA (21 CFR) and USDA labeling requirements
• FDA food labeling certificationisa mustor if they are willing to obtainGMFwill pay for the certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred:

• Experience withTraceGains, Genesis R&D, or similar systems
• Experience working with food suppliers and/or imported food products
• Knowledge of certification and claims requirements (Organic, Non-GMO, Halal, Kosher, etc.)
• FSVP, PCQI, and HACCP certification
