Job description

Label Printing Production Supervisor
About Label Aid

Label Aid is a family-owned manufacturer of pressure-sensitive labels, tags, and tape based in Huron, Ohio. Since 1984, we have partnered with startups, established brands, and manufacturers to deliver dependable packaging solutions backed by quality, service, and industry expertise.

Our capabilities include digital and flexographic printing, specialty materials, and premium label embellishments for customers across consumer, industrial, chemical, automotive, and other markets.

Label Aid is seeking an experienced Label Printing Production Supervisor to run day-to-day production across our digital printing, flexographic printing, and rewind departments.

This is a hands-on supervisory role and will be responsible for the production operations, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting employees on the production floor. The Production Supervisor will assign operators and equipment, set job priorities, keep work moving between printing, finishing, and rewind, support operators at the presses and finishing stations, and make sure quality and delivery expectations are met.

Quality is a core part of the job: this role carries out and oversees press checks and in-process inspections, and makes sure QC personnel are accurate, timely, and thorough in their checks.

We are particularly interested in candidates with hands-on experience in label printing and converting, whether on digital presses (toner-based or UV inkjet), flexographic presses, or finishing and rewind equipment such as ABG Digicon or comparable platforms. The right candidate is comfortable working directly on the production floor, has some experience supervising or managing production, and can step in on a press, finishing line, or rewind table when needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the daily production operation across digital printing, flexographic printing, finishing, and rewind, including equipment assignments, job priorities, and production workflow.
  • Monitor production to ensure quality, productivity, and delivery expectations are consistently met.
  • Take accountability of print quality and investigate defects, reruns, spoilage, customer complaints, and recurring production problems to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Monitor key performance measures including waste, spoilage, setup time, downtime, press speeds, throughput, and equipment utilization, and use this information to spot problems early and keep production on target.
  • Provide hands-on technical support with digital and flexographic presses and with finishing and rewind equipment, including setup, operation, calibration, color management, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure presses, finishing equipment, and rewinders are properly maintained, calibrated, and production-ready, and coordinate preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Train, coach, cross-train, and develop operators across all production areas while setting clear expectations and holding employees accountable for quality, productivity, attendance, safety, and established procedures.
  • Carry out and oversee press checks, first-piece approvals, and in-process inspections as needed, confirming that print quality, color, registration, copy accuracy, barcodes, variable data, die cutting, and finishing match approved artwork and job specifications.
  • Ensure QC personnel are accurate, timely, and thorough in their inspections by spot-checking their work, coaching on inspection procedures, and following up on missed or incomplete checks.
  • Stop production or hold shipment when product does not meet approved specifications or quality requirements, and escalation promptly to Management.
  • Keep quality and production records accurate and complete, including inspection logs, first-piece approvals, and documentation of reruns, spoilage, and nonconforming product.
  • Work closely with Prepress, Scheduling, Quality, Shipping, Customer Service, and Production Manager to resolve issues and keep jobs moving through production.
Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with digital printing, flexographic printing, and/or finishing and rewind equipment, preferably within pressure-sensitive labels, flexible packaging, narrow-web printing, or a related production environment.
  • Experience with toner-based digital printing platforms such as Xeikon or HP, UV inkjet platforms such as Domino or Durst, narrow-web flexographic presses, or digital finishing systems such as ABG Digicon is highly preferred.
  • Some previous experience supervising or managing production in a manufacturing environment, such as shift supervisor, team lead, or production manager, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of print production, print-quality standards, color management, and calibration.
  • Working knowledge of quality-control practices in print production, such as press checks, first-piece approval, and in-process inspection, with the ability to verify work against approved artwork and job specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting print defects, equipment problems, and recurring production issues.
  • Familiarity with label materials, substrates, coatings, laminates, adhesives, and converting processes such as die cutting, varnishing, slitting, rewinding, embossing, and hot foil stamping.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical problem-solving ability.
  • Comfort working with production measures such as waste, spoilage, setup time, downtime, and throughput to keep jobs on target.
  • Ability to organize people, equipment, and priorities across multiple production areas in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to enforce quality standards and address misses directly and constructively.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills, with the ability to set expectations and hold employees accountable.
What We Offer:
  • A hands-on supervisory role across digital printing, flexographic printing, finishing, and rewind, working directly with the equipment, the operators, and the quality of the work we ship.
