Job summary

ECS Group of Companies (ECS) seeks a motivated Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician for its Long Beach team. No prior experience is required; you will be trained and guided by experienced staff to learn concrete and soils lab testing, while earning your certifications.

We provide paid training and cover certification fees, with career growth opportunities as you gain qualifications in ASTM-related testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0 years of related experience required.
• Obtain lab certifications applicable to the lab work performed per ECS Technician Certification Policy.
• Strong communication and basic math skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and responsible work ethic.
• Ability to follow directions and work under close supervision.
• Basic computer proficiency (Word/Excel).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds multiple times per day.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic laboratory tests on construction material samples under supervision.
• Assists with sample preparation and testing procedures.
• Compiles test results, data input, data processing, and other administrative duties.
• Performs soils laboratory testing (Attterberg limits, Gradation analyses, Swell, Moisture, Visual classifications).
• Performs concrete laboratory testing (stripping, labeling, curing setups, temperature logs).
• Maintains a clean and organized laboratory environment; supports calibration and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains calibration records and QA/QC documentation; notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment.
• Assists with additional laboratory functions and occasional fieldwork as needed.
