Job summary

Howard University is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the NIH SC1HL150685 grant on the role of HGFL in sickle cell nephropathy. The role includes routine maintenance of the laboratory, cell culture, and mice colonies, plus testing and analyzing human and mouse specimens.

Reporting to Dr. Marina Jerebtsova, you will perform RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunostaining, and participate in protocol development and lab meetings to advance early kidney disease

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S in biology, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, or related fields.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques and animal handling is preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Order laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Isolate RNA and proteins from cells and mouse tissues.
  • Perform RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunostaining of paraffin-embedded tissues.
  • Collect and organize results.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and in training activities.
  • Assist in preparing IBC, IACUC and IRB protocols.
