Job summary

Howard University is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide research and administrative support for the PI’s laboratory in Washington, DC. The role involves maintaining fly stocks, conducting experiments under supervision, and documenting results in a lab notebook.

Additional duties include training students, presenting findings at meetings and conferences, and assisting with ordering and lab maintenance tasks. A biology degree is required, with Drosophila experience strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field; experience with Drosophila melanogaster is not required but strongly preferred.
• Experience with wet laboratory biology techniques and laboratory notebooks.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of laboratory fly stocks
• Executing research experiments under PI mentorship and documenting in a laboratory notebook
• Training students and new staff in routine laboratory techniques
• Presenting work at lab meetings and local/national conferences
• Help organize lab consumables and ordering
• Contribute to routine lab maintenance tasks (autoclaving, cleaning)
• Performs other duties as assigned
