Job summary

Quaker Houghton is seeking a laboratory technician to perform tests on process chemicals and fluids while following the Quality System and maintaining accurate data records.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, the ability to react to out-of-spec data, and clear communication with internal customers. A high school diploma is required with a preference for chemistry or physical sciences degrees; one year of lab experience is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or physical sciences preferred.
• 1 year of lab experience required; equivalent education and experience considered.
• English language proficiency mandatory.
• Knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Internet and Database software is expected.

Job description

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Understanding of laboratory tests to be performed on process chemicals/fluids
• Adhere to the principles of the Quality System
• Record data in accurate and concise manner
• Recognize and react to out of spec data
• Report data to internal customers
• Make laboratory preparations under supervision
• Help keep laboratory clean and all equipment in good working order
• Complete assigned work in a timely fashion
• Adhere to all lab safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment
• Provide support to lower level technicians
• Perform new procedures with close supervision
• Ensure that all equipment and machines in your area of control are managed with regards to safety, maintenance, calibration, and availability.
• Interaction with internal and/or external customers
• Report data to internal and external customers

WORK ENVIRONMENT / EHS RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work in a laboratory and administrative office setting, w/ some travel as required.
• Ensure a safety mindset throughout designated area of responsibility.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Key Education or Certification Required:

High School Diploma, GED, or similar required. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or physical sciences preferred.

Required Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience:

1 year previous lab experience required. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Language Ability:

A good command of the English language is mandatory.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software and Database software.

Position holder has good communication and prioritization skills. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, work on different projects at the same time, follow instructions, and think analytically. Must be a team player who is result/customer oriented.

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The associate must be able to safely work in a variety of potentially hazardous situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to carefully, and precisely manipulate samples, apparatus, and sensitive instruments. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, or no more than local or country regulations allow. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
