Laboratory TECH - PART TIME

Requirements: MLT - Medical Technician - ASCP or equivalent (AAB, CLS, HEW) required

Job Summary

Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under supervision by the section chief technologist. Ensures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Performs breath alcohol testing as needed. Assists as needed in all laboratory areas to maintain appropriate patient care.

Essential Functions

• Accurately performs all moderate and high complexity testing assigned.
• Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.
• Ensures quality control is performed as required and analyzes quality control data.
• Troubleshoots and corrects out-of-range results promptly.
• Performs instrument preventative maintenance daily, weekly, and monthly, and reports malfunctions.
• Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions and attempts repairs or notifies manufacturer.
• Operates the Laboratory Computer System effectively.
• Performs proficiency testing for accreditation.
• Communicates instrument malfunctions, QC issues, and unusual results to supervisors.
• Willingly accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties.
• Follows safety protocols and uses PPE as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in medical technology, biological sciences, or chemistry required.
• Completion of an approved clinical laboratory training program or ASCP equivalent preferred.
• 1-2 years laboratory experience preferred.
