Job summary

Miami University invites applications for a Lab Technician in the Chemistry Department. This temporary fixed-term role supports Dr. Yukun Cheng’s laboratory, seeking a recent MS graduate in Chemistry or related field from a US institution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field required.

• Familiarity with organic electrosynthesis techniques in past 3 years desired.
• Experience with inert atmosphere techniques and high-throughput experiments is a plus.

Job Description Summary

Dr. Yukun Cheng’s laboratory in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Miami University (Ohio) has an open position for a research technician. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate holding a MS degree in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited institution in the US.

Essential Duties

• Assist in ongoing projects by preparing common laboratory reagents (e.g., scope substrates, mechanistic model compounds).
• Conduct basic electrochemical synthesis experiments strictly adhering to established protocols.
• Assist with training undergraduate students on different laboratory safety and research protocols under the supervision of the laboratory PI.
• Help maintain a clean and safe working environment in the laboratory.
• Assist with other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or related field.
• Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated research experience in a faculty-led laboratory.
• Basic training organic synthesis and have engaged in research involving organic electrosynthesis techniques within the past three years.
• Familiarity with high throughput experimentation.
• Familiarity with inert atmosphere techniques.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills and work harmoniously in a laboratory with a diverse group of researchers at different education levels (including undergraduate and graduate students).
• Other desirable skills include prior research experience in maintenance of inert atmosphere glovebox and gas chromatography.
• Demonstrated ability to write project reports or prepare publication manuscripts.
• Experience with supervising/training junior undergraduate students.
