Job summary

Portland Bottling Company in Clackamas, OR is seeking a Lab Tech to perform laboratory tests on beverage formulations, verify properties, and support product development by blending ingredients per formulas. You will set up and calibrate equipment, test water and beverages for pH, taste, and quality, and document results with charts and reports.

Requires 2 years in a lab setting and proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience in food/beverage manufacturing is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Tests materials and ingredients used in beverages for odor, appearance, taste, acidity, carbonation, nitrogen, and pH to verify specifications.
  • Tests treated water for sensory attributes and water quality parameters (alkalinity, chlorine, hardness).
  • Tests product samples to verify conformity to specifications and comply with food laws and quality standards.
  • Sets up, calibrates, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Prepares chemicals or raw materials to meet formulation specifications.
  • Studies effects of processing methods on beverage composition and properties.
  • Records test results and writes test reports describing procedures used.
  • Cleans beverage processing and related equipment and systems.

Pay, Shift and Location
  • Location: 16800 SE Evelyn St, Clackamas, Oregon 97015
  • $21 / hour starting wage (higher wage available for candidates with experience)
  • 3 weeks PTO to start
What Will You Do?

The Lab Tech is responsible for performing laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of our liquid products sold to the public. This includes blending specific ingredients as specified by formulas to create, develop and improve beverages.

Specific Job Duties
  • Tests materials and ingredients used in beverages for such qualities as odor, appearance, taste, total acidity, carbonation, nitrogen, and pH levels to verify conformity to specifications.
  • Testing of treated water for sensory, including odor and appearance. Perform treated water tests such as alkalinity, chlorine, manganese, and hardness.
  • Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications, ensuring compliance with food laws and standards of quality.
  • Sets up, calibrates, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Prepares and adds chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications.
  • Studies effects of various methods of processing, preservation, and packaging on composition and properties of beverages such as color, texture, aroma, taste, shelf life, and nutritive content.
  • Prepares graphs and chart as needed to accurately records test results on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used.
  • Cleans the beverage processing equipment, manufacturing equipment, sewage treatment system and water supply wells.
Experience and Education Requirements
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab setting. Food/beverage manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application
  • Strong attention to detail
