Job Summary

The LAB RELIEF TECHNICIAN is an on-site position at the Lemont Refinery, covering shifts for laboratory technicians and assistants. Responsibilities include analyzing petrochemical feedstocks, intermediates, and finished products, collecting and disposing of samples, recording results, maintaining a safe environment, and demonstrating proficiency in laboratory test methods.

Starting pay is $39.76/hour.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, or 5 years of laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
• Preferred: Chemical or petroleum refining experience.
• Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24-hour operation.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and program access.
• Eligibility for Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). For more information, visit the TSA website.

Job Duties

• Analyze plant samples using equipment like Gas Chromatographs, titrations, distillations, X-ray instruments, etc.
• Enter data into the laboratory system (cBliss).
• Produce data sheets for final products.
• Ensure equipment functionality and reliability.
• Collect samples from various plant areas and deliver supplies.
• Perform analyses such as flash point, color, pour point, etc.
• Dispose of unused samples safely.
• Communicate with management and operations regarding sample status and analysis issues.
• Serve as a technical resource for operations and engineering.
• Follow regulations related to product analysis.
• Monitor and maintain instruments, perform routine maintenance.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
