Job summary

Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Lab Assistant to perform routine and some complex laboratory tasks. You will handle specimens, assist in chemistry analyses, and maintain equipment in a clinical lab setting.

The role requires high school diploma or equivalent, coursework or experience in biology/chemistry or medical technology, and the ability to communicate in English. Shift work and potential lead duties are possible as needed.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of 60 credits with biology/chemistry/medical tech coursework.
• Alternative: 1 year of hospital or public health lab experience.
• Alternative: 30 credits in medical technology or an equivalent combination.

Responsibilities

• Receives, opens and sorts specimens for diagnostic examinations.
• Dates and times stamps all request slips and assigns lab numbers.
• Enters specimens into accession book with proper data.
• Performs basic lab tasks such as staining slides and preparing specimens.
• Files and retrieves laboratory reports and communicates findings as needed.
• Maintains work areas, cleans benches and centrifuges, orders supplies.
• Assists in Chemistry: handles chemical analyses, prepares aliquots and cleans glassware.
• Maintains safety and cleanliness of laboratories and equipment.

Education

60 credits in biology/chemistry/medical technology

30 credits in medical technology
