Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Lab Support Technician (LST I) to support reports, data and scheduling within the laboratory. The role emphasizes accurate specimen collection, safe handling, and HIPAA confidentiality while delivering excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

The LST I will process, transport and refer laboratory specimens and reports, and complete departmental checklists under supervision to achieve Mercy Service Standards and mission-driven care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of probationary period.
• No active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans.
• Preferred: college-level Chemistry, Biology or other Science courses.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in specimen collection, processing and transport.
• Provide accurate, timely laboratory support and data handling.
• Support scheduling functions and report preparation for the laboratory.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and Mercy Service Standards in all interactions.

The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
