Job summary

Mercy Fort Smith is seeking a Lab Support Technician (LST I) to join the provider care team. The role supports reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory, with an emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and compassionate service to clients and staff.

The LST I is responsible for specimen collection, processing, and referral, following Mercy policies and HIPAA requirements. Strong customer service and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Successful completion of probationary period; no active disciplinary actions.
• Preferred: Chemistry, Biology or other Science courses.
• Preferred: previous clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely laboratory support and customer service to internal and external customers.
• Acquire laboratory specimens using safe, accurate methods while ensuring HIPAA confidentiality.
• Process, transport and refer all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required.

TheLab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Requirements

• Preferred Experience: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory.
