Job summary

Mercy Fort Smith is seeking a Lab Support Tech (LST I) PRN to support the provider care team with specimens, reports and scheduling, while upholding Mercy Service Standards and HIPAA privacy.

You will perform safe specimen collection and processing, handle transport and referrals, and deliver courteous customer service to internal and external customers as part of the laboratory workflow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or enrolled in healthcare career program
• Preferred: College level Chemistry, Biology or other Science courses
• Preferred: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory
• No active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans
• Successful completion of probationary period

Responsibilities

• Acquire laboratory specimens for testing following safe, accurate, and professional methodologies
• Process, transport and refer specimens and reports as required
• Provide accurate, timely and effective laboratory support and data handling
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and compliance with lab policies
• Deliver excellent customer service in all internal and external interactions

Job description

Find your calling at Mercy! The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
