Job summary

ALS is seeking a hands-on Sample Preparation Supervisor to manage daily prep workloads, ensure timely sample processing, and enforce SOPs and safety policies. You will train staff, coordinate shifts, monitor QC data, and collaborate with lab leadership to deliver high-quality services to clients.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in a commercial minerals lab, a degree or diploma in mineral/geology/chemistry, and forklift credentials.

• Experience in managing and training staff
• Hands-on experience with laboratory computer systems
• Basic mechanical aptitude
• Organized and highly motivated
• Detail oriented with focus on quality and safety
• Ability to work independently or in a team
• Ability to handle high volume and time-critical issues
• Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy
• Excellent English communication (written and verbal)
• Excellent computer skills including LIMS, Webview, MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Responsibilities

• Manages the process of sample preparations
• Maintains shift production levels and ensures turnaround time
• Coordinate and prioritize daily workloads
• Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures
• Ensures safety procedures and policies are followed
• Investigates client inquiries and quality issues
• Trains and develops Sample Preparation technicians
• Conducts monthly safety and quality discussions
• Organizes employee shift work
• Assists with staff evaluations and documentation
• Updates prep QC data charts
• Performs basic mechanical maintenance
• Uses established methods to ensure analytical quality
• Ensures compliance with safety policies
• Supports ALS operations and client delivery
• Other duties as assigned
