Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Research Technician I to perform bench-level experiments and operate analytical instruments in support of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. The role involves collecting, processing and verifying data, and helping maintain lab records.

You will join the Site Affiliated Laboratory processing group, follow SOPs, QA, and safety practices, coordinate with staff on sample collection, and assist with supplies and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study.
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process blood and other biological specimens using sterile techniques and SOPs.
  • Perform routine sample processing including PBMC isolation and cryopreservation.
  • Receive, inventory, label, and prepare specimens for storage and shipment.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records compliant with GCLP and enter data into LIMS.
  • Coordinate with staff on specimen collection schedules and processing needs.
  • Operate, clean and maintain centrifuges, microscopes, automated cell counters and freezers.
  • Assist with inventory and preparation of reagents and materials for daily operations.
  • Follow SOPs, QA requirements and safety practices.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and protocol-related records.
  • Participate in quality control activities and report discrepancies.
  • Prepare materials and spaces to support ongoing studies and trials.
  • Attend required training and maintain proficiency in procedures.
  • Support general laboratory operations and other duties as assigned.
