Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a temporarily appointed Research Professional 1 to assist with ongoing projects in Dr. Barney's lab focusing on plastic biodegradation and plant microbiome integration.

This 100% time, in-person Civil Service position has an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027 and is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. The role involves conducting molecular and genetic experiments, data collection, routine design of experiments, and maintaining thorough

Qualifications

• B.S. in microbiology, biochemistry, biological engineering or related area; or a combination of related education and/or work experience totaling at least four years.
• Experience reporting on the progress and direction of individual projects.
• Experience planning and conducting experiments and data collection.
• Experience maintaining documentation and reports for data and procedures from separate projects.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experiments: independently perform molecular and genetic experiments in bacteria, lipid analysis, and standard molecular manipulations with data recording and analysis.
• Design routine experiments outlined by the PI for short- and long-term goals.
• Archive all experiments and generated reagents with full records of work.
• Routine laboratory maintenance and ensure a ready supply of strains, solutions, chemicals, and lab reagents.
