UC San Diego's Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology seeks a Research Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee basic science facilities (Viterbi, Jacobs, Hamilton labs). You will act as Lab Manager to the Daneman Lab and ensure safety, documentation, and compliance across departments.

You will lead staff, standardize procedures, assist in grant writing, and coordinate with Facilities Management for infrastructure needs.

Qualifikationen

• Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
• Advanced knowledge of a wide variety of specialized laboratory equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of necessary lab safety procedures and requirements, as well as chemical disposal guidelines.
• Focus of knowledge and skills dependent on area of specialty (laboratory research or instructional / experimental design).
• Solid leadership skills to plan work, set priorities, schedule instructional space, and manage multiple projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty and staff.
• Solid knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of research discipline to collaborate with faculty and support researchers.
• Strong interpersonal communication to supervise all levels of staff.
• Strong abilities to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings.
• Proficiency with Medical Terminology.
• Knowledge of clinical research.
• Experience with tissue culture and various laboratory assays (e.g., PCR, Western Blot, immunohistochemistry).
• Demonstrated ability to find original and effective solutions to problems.

Aufgaben

• Oversee daily activities and staff across multiple labs, including Daneman Lab.
• Provide instructional support to lab personnel and supervise lab personnel.
• Develop and standardize lab procedures and ensure documentation practices are maintained.
• Assist with grant writing and communicate department-wide laboratory updates.
• Coordinate with Facilities Management on space changes and equipment needs.
• Serve as laboratory safety officer and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Train incoming lab managers and oversee onboarding across labs.
