Job summary

UC San Diego Health's Moores Cancer Center seeks researchers to advance novel protein-based cancer therapies. The role emphasizes design, production, and characterization of recombinant proteins with translational potential.

You will conduct vector design, purification, and analytical work, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams while developing new experimental approaches and mentoring staff.

Qualifications

• Advanced theoretical knowledge in virology, biochemistry or molecular biology with hands-on vector work.
• Experience with viral vectors, purification and infection/transfection of DNA plasmids.
• Experience with DNA/RNA purification and basic protein assays.
• Ability to contribute to original project ideas and experimental design.
• Knowledge of large-scale recombinant protein production in bacteria and mammalian cells.
• Experience with protein purification techniques including HPLC, FPLC and affinity resins.
• Familiarity with characterization of recombinant proteins (binding, PK/PD).
• Understanding of protein therapeutics concepts such as antibody-drug conjugates.
• Cell culture, transfection, flow cytometry and analytic techniques.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently design, perform and analyze experiments for novel protein therapeutics.
• Design vectors for production and assess their function in human cell systems.
• Develop purification schemes for proteins from cell culture materials.
• Interpret data from HPLC, FPLC, FACS, IHC and ICC analyses.
• Conduct PK/PD studies in vitro and in vivo and manage study execution.
• Train staff and collaborate across departments on cutting-edge techniques.
• Review literature and contribute to experimental methodology improvements.
