Job summary

Caltrans is seeking a Lab Manager II in Sacramento County to support the Roadside Safety Research Branch. You will evaluate, test, and help develop new roadside safety hardware under senior supervision, ensuring rigorous quality and safety standards.

The role requires independence, strong technical skills in materials and research engineering, and a valid driver’s license for state vehicle operation. Telework is possible with discretionary in-person work as needed.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the Chief, Roadside Safety Research Branch (Senior Transportation Engineer) the Materials and Research Engineering Associate performs a wide variety of duties critical to the evaluation, research, and development of new roadside safety hardware, including full scale testing.
