Responsibilities
- Provide supervision for lab staff; perform routine and complex analysis in all laboratory sections; maintain and establish quality assurance and system controls. The ideal candidates will have the following:
Essential Functions
- Facilitates the provision of laboratory services to the hospital and neighboring community. Oversees quality assurance programs, measures and reports on patient and physician expectations, develops short and long-term goals for assigned areas (in conjunction with the Chairman of the Department of Pathology), and develops programs, marketing plans, and advertising campaigns to promote growth. (35%)
- Monitors laboratory information systems to ensure proper records are processed, retained, and stored; interfaces effectively with hospital information systems. (20%)
- Oversees the selection, training/orientation, and assignment of department staff (either directly or through subordinates). Develops performance standards, evaluates performance, and recommends personnel actions. Ensures staff meet all educational and responsibility requirements for clinical laboratory testing as defined by federal law. (15%)
- Develops and recommends department operating and capital budgets, ensuring operations stay within fiscal parameters. Develops strategies to achieve laboratory financial goals. (10%)
- Participates in interdepartmental or multidisciplinary groups to integrate laboratory services into the organization’s patient care system. Identifies opportunities for service expansion across the continuum of care. (10%)
- Ensures compliance with accreditation and licensing agencies. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. (10%)
Marginal Functions
- Performs essential and marginal job functions safely, adhering to hospital confidentiality, sanitation, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Demonstrates core values in all interactions.
- Maintains knowledge of hospital and departmental objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in performance activities, problem-solving, data collection, and equipment maintenance.
- Attends staff meetings, inservices, and committees as required.
- Engages in professional growth through educational programs, literature, workshops, and committee participation. Represents the hospital in professional and civic organizations.
Qualifications
- ASCP certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in all areas of the lab, including Blood Bank, with a clear understanding of lab operations
- Minimum of 2 years of management/supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
