Job summary

Castle Biosciences Inc. in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Laboratory Technologist to support clinical studies.

The role focuses on preparing and processing patient samples, running instruments, and executing assays per SOPs. You will work with Clinical Research Scientists, maintain sample tracking in LIMS, perform routine QC and equipment maintenance, document results, and may perform RNA/DNA extraction or PCR‑based assays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 1–2 years in a clinical or research lab environment.
  • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology or science courses with Chemistry & Biology exposure.
  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration and initiative.
  • Path toward ASCP Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB) board certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process patient samples and operate laboratory instruments.
  • Execute assays in accordance with SOPs and study plans.
  • Maintain sample tracking and workflows in LIMS.
  • Perform routine quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Document results in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

Position Overview

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A Clinical Research Laboratory Technologist

This role is a hands‑on bench position focused on supporting clinical research studies. Responsibilities include preparing and processing patient samples, operating laboratory instruments, and executing assays in strict accordance with approved SOPs and study plans. You will work closely with Clinical Research Scientists to support ongoing studies, follow experimental designs, and resolve technical issues to ensure accurate and timely testing. Daily tasks also include maintaining sample tracking and workflows in LIMS, performing routine quality control and equipment maintenance, and documenting results in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. Depending on study needs, you may perform molecular techniques such as RNA/DNA extraction or PCR‑based assays and support assay development, validation, and data review in a collaborative research laboratory environment.

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution, plus 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment. And/or completion of a 50‑week U.S. military medical laboratory training program for laboratory technicians as high complexity testing.
  • Minimum 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses, including 6 semester hours of both Chemistry & Biology and an additional 12 semester hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory.
  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, successful collaboration with others, and independent initiative.
  • The Clinical Research Technologist in the clinical research laboratory can be placed on a track toward obtaining American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB) board certification if not already credentialed upon hire.
Preferred
  • Preferred 2–4 years of clinical laboratory experience or 2–4 years of clinical research experience.
Schedule
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, exempt position, working from our Phoenix, AZ laboratory.
