Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Outpatient Lab, performing blood draws, EKGs, and specimen processing. The role interacts with patients, documents in HIS, and ensures proper specimen handling at the Lab Administration front desk.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a certified phlebotomy course, and ASCP certification. Shift is day-based with 32 hours per week at our Leominster, MA facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a certified phlebotomy course.
• Minimum 120 hours of clinical phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification through ASCP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients using two identifiers (name and DOB).
• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture (finger/heel) with standard equipment.
• Respond to STAT blood work within 30 minutes and timed requests within +/-15 minutes.
• Use ROVER for inpatient blood draws and perform EKGs.
• Enter patient data into HIS and verify insurance for outpatient lab.
• Explain procedures to patients and obtain cooperation.
• Transport and properly store specimens; document in HIS.
• Provide guidance to students and new staff.
• Maintain a clean, organized phlebotomy work area.
