Job summary

Helix in San Diego is seeking an Automations Service Engineer to diagnose on-site equipment issues, calibrate and repair laboratory automation systems, and document activities for QA. You’ll join a team that keeps production running smoothly by maintaining complex instrumentation and supporting automated workflows.

The role requires hands-on lab experience, a basic understanding of SOPs, strong communication, and a calm, methodical approach under pressure.

Qualifications

• 1+ year hands-on experience with laboratory equipment
• Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures, clean room practices, and SOP/documentation processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with internal customers
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable using tools and working with technical service documentation
• Calm under pressure when systems are down and production is waiting

Responsibilities

• Own on-site diagnostics of laboratory automation equipment issues for production
• Calibrate, maintain, and repair automation equipment per SOPs
• Document service, repair, and maintenance activities per QA requirements
• Collaborate with Automations team to resolve recurring issues
• Apply knowledge of automation instrumentation including liquid handlers and supporting systems
