Job summary

HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant (PRN) to support core lab functions under supervision. The role includes specimen collection, processing, and registration with emphasis on accuracy and compliance with procedures.

Strong customer service and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced clinical setting. The position requires a vocational/technical degree and 1–3 years in a clinical lab.

Qualifications

• Ability to interact with co-workers in a team environment.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service practices in all interactions.
• Effectively communicate with all personnel to exchange accurate and timely technical information.
• May assist in communication to customers, floors, physicians regarding problem and/or pending specimens.
• Requires 2+ years experience performing registration, clerical duties, and sending out of specimen processing.
• Follows safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of specimen collection and testing requirements.
• Proficient in venipunctures and/or finger sticks for pediatric, neonatal, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Performs specimen collection documentation and patient registration.
• Uses laboratory information system for specimen and results tracking.
• Performs registration and order entry procedures with accuracy and timeliness.
• Labels specimens and aliquots according to protocols and test orders.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens as required by test orders.
• Maintains clean and safe work area and respects chain-of-custody procedures.
