Join the MercyOne Family as a Lab Assistant PRN

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Assistant to join our team at MercyOne. This position offers part-time hours with flexible scheduling (PRN).

Job Responsibilities

1. Perform venipunctures and finger sticks accurately and efficiently, ensuring patient safety and proper specimen collection.
2. Prepare specimens for testing and accept specimens and requisitions from internal and external customers with excellent customer service.
3. Identify patients and specimens using two unique identifiers and label containers correctly.
4. Register and log specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring specimen adequacy and acceptability.
5. Process specimens as required, including identification, aliquoting, slide preparation, and documentation.
6. Follow infection control policies and handle chemicals safely.
7. Maintain productivity standards and support LEAN principles.
8. Utilize laboratory information systems and computers proficiently.
9. Participate in peer teaching and handle telephone communications professionally.
10. Monitor and document temperature ranges for specimens as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory experience preferred.
• Computer skills required.
