Ottumwa Regional Health Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support lab operations including phlebotomy, specimen collection, and waived testing.

Responsibilities include handling specimens, processing and distributing, reviewing reports, and maintaining phlebotomy supply inventory to ensure timely results. High school diploma required; phlebotomy certification preferred; strong English communication essential.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• License/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Required Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• The Laboratory Assistant supports laboratory operations by performing phlebotomy, specimen collection, and waived testing.
• This role is responsible for ordering, processing, and distributing specimens, reviewing pending reports and manifests for outstanding results, and assisting with specimen storage and retrieval to ensure timely turnaround.
• The Laboratory Assistant also helps maintain inventory for phlebotomy, reference lab, and departmental office supplies, contributing to the overall efficiency and accuracy of laboratory services.
