Job summary

HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital in Kissimmee, FL is seeking a PRN Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing, and registration under supervision. You will support quality, regulatory compliance, and patient satisfaction while handling clerical duties and coordinating with phlebotomy teams.

The role requires proficient venipuncture/finger-stick skills, adherence to procedures, and the ability to educate patients about collection steps.

Qualifications

• May assist in communicating with customers, floors, and physicians about problems or pending specimens.
• Requires 2+ years' experience in registration and clerical duties related to specimen processing.
• Participates in Privacy & Security Awareness program to protect sensitive information.
• Follows safety policies and standards.
• Completes assigned courses and training annually.
• Available to work during disasters.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding of specimen collection and testing requirements.
• Proficient in venipunctures and/or finger sticks across age groups.
• Utilizes supplies appropriately; follows procedures for patient identification.
• Performs registration and order entry with accuracy.
• Labels specimens and prepares for courier pickup.
• Collects and documents specimen handling per protocols.
• Monitors OSR and pending specimen issues; takes appropriate action.
• Receives specimens into the LIMS and documents accordingly.
• Cleans area after spills and participates in QA procedures.
